Bluey’s Barky Boats: Lessons Brought to Life Through Immersive Experience.
When it comes to engagement marketing and creating unforgettable experiences for both kids and families, there’s nothing quite like bringing a beloved cartoon experience to life. Recently, our team had the incredible opportunity to help promote the launch of a brand-new full-length episode of Bluey by fabricating an interactive experience replicating the Bluey Barky Boats experience for the LA Store for Bluey by Camp. In this article, we’ll take you behind the scenes of our fabrication process, the design challenges we overcame, and how we helped create unforgettable experiences for everyone who attended the event!
The Concept: Bringing Barky Boats to Life
Bluey has captured the hearts of children and parents alike with its charming characters and relatable stories. So, when we were asked to recreate a scene from the “Barky Boats” S2E30 episode for a live interactive event, we wanted to deliver something special. The episode features two main characters – Bluey and Mackenzie – who receive a lesson of growing up through a demonstration with pieces of tree bark floating down a natural fountain. It was a simple, yet iconic lesson of growing up that resonated with both children and parents.
Understanding the Event Goals and Artwork
After first understanding the source material, our next step was to dive deep into the goals of the event. And so we collaborated closely with the client to understand the vision for the celebration, the expected audience, and the overall vibe of the event. The goal was clear: create a captivating, interactive experience that would engage children and make them feel like they had stepped right into this episode of Bluey, complete with the chance to race their own Barky Boats down a fountain complete with real running water.
We studied the scenes from the Barky Boats episode, paying special attention to the colors, textures, and overall look of the elements. We knew the finished product had to be lifelike, but with a cartoonish feel. This helped guide the fabrication to be as true to the original as possible, while also being safe and durable enough to withstand enthusiastic play from young attendees.

The Fabrication Process: From Concept to Creation
Custom fabrications for experiential marketing might have more in common with event production than you first think. Both require an expert blend of creativity, technical skill, and deep understanding of customer engagement. Here’s how we leveraged our years of expertise to bring the Bluey Barky Boats experience to life.
Formulating Design Concepts
We like to start with the end in mind. So after we had a clear understanding of the event’s goals and the aesthetics we needed to match, our team got to work on the design concepts. We collaborated on ways to recreate the fountain, considering budget-friendly materials that would best replicate the look of the rocks, wood, and grass seen in the episode.
One of the biggest challenges was figuring out how to incorporate all those elements PLUS a functional fountain with running water that was safe for small children to interact with. The fountain not only had to be visually accurate, but also functional, secure, and look awesome!
Building In-House: Rocks, Wood, and Water
With the design concepts approved, we moved on to the build phase. Every element of the fountain’s design and construction was handled in-house by our skilled fabrication team, using a combination of high-quality materials to replicate the natural elements seen in the episode. The rocks were hand-sculpted and finished to achieve a realistic texture, while the fountain was machined and detailed with hand carved finishing to replicate a wooden appearance.
We had some trial and learning, and ultimately engineered the functional water element to ensure a steady stream of water that flowed from the end of the fountain back the spout at the start without any interruption.
The Event: Creating a Memorable Bluey Experience
On the day of the event, the Bluey Barky Boats fabrication served as a central attraction within a larger celebration that included various other interactive elements. The families could enjoy face painting, refreshments, prizes, and live stage action. Here’s how the Barky Boats installation contributed to an unforgettable customer experience.
The Barky Boats Fountain: A Hit with the Kids
As expected, the Barky Boats fountain was hugely popular with the children. This Barky Boats build was a fun and engaging feature for children to enjoy. Parents and children alike were thrilled, with the kids finding their way back to the start of the fountain for several rounds of Barky Boat races.
They loved floating their little boats down the stream, just like Bluey and her friends. The interactive nature of the fountain provided endless entertainment, encouraging kids to engage with the environment and with each other for hours. This level of engagement is exactly what we strive for in all of our experiential marketing fabrications – to build a high quality experience that people want to engage with endlessly.
Additional Elements: Enhancing the Customer Experience
Beyond the fountain, our team also fabricated a full-size photo wall that resembled a tree from Bluey’s backyard. This photo moment became another focal point of the event, offering families the perfect backdrop to capture memories from their day at the Bluey x Camp interactive experience and share with their social media audiences, friends, and families.
Along with other attractions such as a sticker wall, arts and crafts stations, and a stage with live-action entertainment, the Barky Boats fountain and photo moment rounded out a full brand activation any agency would be proud to produce. And we’re thrilled that Fuller Street can help provide these elements for a live production of immersive adventure!
We began by listening closely to their goals.
The Value of Experiential Marketing in Children’s Events
Experiential marketing, especially in the context of children’s events, is about more than just creating fun activities. It’s about fostering connections between the brand and its audience through shared experiences. In the case of the Bluey Barky Boats event, the interactive nature of the fountain and the photo wall not only entertained the children but also created lasting memories for the entire family. Any parent will tell you that caring for their child is much like caring for them personally. So when the brand brings joy to the children, the brand builds important loyalty with the parents and caregivers.
Why Custom Fabrications Matter
Custom fabrications like the Barky Boats fountain are a key component of successful experiential marketing. They allow brands to bring their stories to life in a tangible, engaging way that resonates with their audience. For children’s events, in particular, these custom elements can make a significant impact, turning a simple gathering into an unforgettable adventure.
