When it comes to engagement marketing and creating unforgettable experiences for both kids and families, there’s nothing quite like bringing a beloved cartoon experience to life. Recently, our team had the incredible opportunity to help promote the launch of a brand-new full-length episode of Bluey by fabricating an interactive experience replicating the Bluey Barky Boats experience for the LA Store for Bluey by Camp. In this article, we’ll take you behind the scenes of our fabrication process, the design challenges we overcame, and how we helped create unforgettable experiences for everyone who attended the event!

The Concept: Bringing Barky Boats to Life

Bluey has captured the hearts of children and parents alike with its charming characters and relatable stories. So, when we were asked to recreate a scene from the “Barky Boats” S2E30 episode for a live interactive event, we wanted to deliver something special. The episode features two main characters – Bluey and Mackenzie – who receive a lesson of growing up through a demonstration with pieces of tree bark floating down a natural fountain. It was a simple, yet iconic lesson of growing up that resonated with both children and parents.

Understanding the Event Goals and Artwork

After first understanding the source material, our next step was to dive deep into the goals of the event. And so we collaborated closely with the client to understand the vision for the celebration, the expected audience, and the overall vibe of the event. The goal was clear: create a captivating, interactive experience that would engage children and make them feel like they had stepped right into this episode of Bluey, complete with the chance to race their own Barky Boats down a fountain complete with real running water.

We studied the scenes from the Barky Boats episode, paying special attention to the colors, textures, and overall look of the elements. We knew the finished product had to be lifelike, but with a cartoonish feel. This helped guide the fabrication to be as true to the original as possible, while also being safe and durable enough to withstand enthusiastic play from young attendees.
